Halloween is brewing and we all have candy on the brain. No matter how your customers choose to celebrate this year, each one has a favorite candy they hope will end up in their treat bag. Did you know some of these crave-worthy candies have been part of customers’ dreams for more than 100 years? (Okay, so we don’t know how many centenarians frequent your shop, but you understand, a classic is a classic for a reason).
We know nostalgia sells and nostalgic candies are a great addition to your selection — particularly during Halloween. Today, we’re feeling both nostalgic and patriotic (especially with elections just around the corner) so, we decided to share with you some of our favorite US-invented candies that are Halloween and year-round staples.

Tickled pink — green with envy — the blues. These common phrases are more than figures of speech. Colors can affect our mood and thoughts — even purchasing decisions. According to Packaging Digest, 90% of snap judgments made about products are based on color. This fact certainly rings true as retailers reopen post COVID-19 quarantines.
Retail authorities like fashion trade publication, Rivet, and trend forecasting firm, Fashion Snoops, are predicting, “… when a sense of normalcy does re-emerge, color will be an impactful tool for companies to use to renew consumers’ spirits and drive shoppers to buy.” Color predictions, however aren’t just for times of quarantine. They’re made yearly by color language experts like Pantone. Ironically (or maybe un-ironically), the “it” color for 2020 selected by Pantone is Classic Blue. Skulls – here in the US, they’re not just for Halloween anymore. Enter Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. As reported by USA Today, this Mexican celebration is going mainstream, with those of non-Mexican descent joining in on the fun. In fact, several US cities like San Francisco, San Antonio, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale, and Albuquerque host Day of the Dead parades and other festivities. Major retailers like Target, Party City, and Amazon have jumped on the Day of the Dead bandwagon, adding a selection of decorations and treats. Their motivation – tap into the holiday’s growing popularity, but also the growing buying power of the Hispanic population.
According to Nielsen, Hispanics represent 18 percent of the US population, and predict their buying power to grow from $1.4 trillion in 2016 to $1.8 trillion by 2021. This potential has retailers upping their offerings around Hispanic holidays and other events. With Day of the
