Brilliant Colors, endless flavor possibilities AND the potential to make bubbles. It’s not surprising that gum is a candy we chew-se again and again.

In celebration of national candy month, we decided to take a closer look at the spheres and sticks that make us bubble with excitement. Chew on these gum facts.

Though not as vibrant or as flavorful as it is today, gum has been around for thousands of years. In fact there are ancient civilizations across the globe that describe chewing on different tree barks and sap — sometimes for medicinal purpose. (History.com). Guess that’s why one of the first chewing gum flavors in the US was spruce.

Fast-forward to present day and gum is still totaling $2.9B in sales in the US (National Confectioners Association). 

But those chomping on chewing gum may not be who you think. The generation who identified gum as their favorite sweet treat — Millennials. 52% of them say gum is their top sweet treat (National Confectioners Association).

Gum is most at home at the point of sale and in gumball machines. But they’re also a favorite addition to candy buffets for weddings and birthday parties.  Particularly single color bulk gumballs.
